Welcome to the Island Heights Grade School, home of the “Sea Devils”! Our K-6 school is located in the beautiful Barnegat Bay/Toms River community in Ocean County, NJ. Our students enjoy a wonderful community school located just minutes from the Toms River and Barnegat Bay. We pride ourselves in offering a myriad of programs and opportunities for our students exposing them to a quality 21st century education. In November 2020 we received the highest distinction in the country being named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education.
Our programs include in addition to our core academic subjects; English Language Arts, Math, Next Generation Science and Social Studies, we offer World Language, Visual Arts, Music, Health and Physical Education and Band. We also offer a STARS program which provides additional instruction in areas of need for our students. Our SAIL (Students Accelerated Initiative for Learning) program provides whole class enriched programs for grades 3and 4 and a pull out experience for our identified gifted and talented population in grades 5 and 6. Also, our special needs population receives high quality instruction by our certified staff in their identified areas of need. Because of all of our high quality programs we have been designated a Choice School by the NJ Department of Education.
We offer a variety of afterschool club programs including sports, recreation , broadcasting and music. We have outstanding chorus and band programs for our students beginning in 2nd grade for chorus and 4th grade for band. Students choose their instrument of choice in spring of the 3rd grade.
We are now offering a new Preschool program for children 3 and 4 years old. The program is only offered to children who reside in Island Heights and is not part of our Choice Program K-6.
Please go to our principal Mrs. Lisa Royer's webpage for more information about our wonderful school.
I want to wish you a very happy, successful and safe 2023-24 school year! "Its a great day to be a Sea Devil"!!
